Verdict so far: Yes!
It pretty much has a lot of my favorite combinations of systems from various JRPGs that are more traditional/turn-based, very ‘old-school’, with emphasis on exploring, discovery, class combinations, and how each battle is a ‘puzzle’ (meaning you can’t just bash through wild battles with the same attack).
I’d say the battle system takes from SMT’s Press Turn (exploit weaknesses to deny enemy from attacking) and the ‘Brave’ mechanic from Bravely series (storing turns for max damage).
The storytelling method in this game may not be for everyone - some prefer an overarching epic story that ties all the party members together, but I think this is more of individual tales and tidbits that you learn as you travel with everyone. Personally after playing through so many other epic stories recently, it’s refreshing to have a simpler version :)
The characters on their own have various personalities and quirks, and the script/translation is well-written. Even NPCs on the overworld and in towns have their own stuff going on, and it’s fun doing little side-quests for them.
Graphics = sprites + the diorama look, with some awesome effects :D The vignette filtering can be a bit overbearing at times but you can always turn it off in the settings.
All this is still from early-game, I have only recruited 4/8 characters, and not even scratched the surface with the whole sub-job system. Can’t wait to experience the rest~
